What operating systems are supported?

The UHD (USRP Hardware Driver) supports all Ettus Research hardware on the following operating systems:

  • Linux (any distribution should work, but primarily Ubuntu, Fedora, and CentOS, and specifically the current and immediate prior versions)
  • Mac OS X 10.4 or newer, macOS 11 or newer, macOS 26 or newer
  • Microsoft Windows 7, 8, 10, 11

Primary development for UHD is done on Linux.

Are design files available with the boards that may aid in further prototyping?

For detailed design files such as schematics and certain other more in-depth USRP documentation submit a request via the Support Request Manager.

Are there any license requirement for using any USRP equipment?

If you choose to use your USRP hardware to transmit any radio signal, it is your responsibility to make sure your use is in compliance with all laws and regulations for the country in -- and frequency and power levels at -- which the USRP is used. We strongly recommend that any USRP user determine what license may be required and what restrictions may apply before attempting to transmit and/or receive any radio signals. It is the sole responsibility of the user to maintain compliance with all local laws and regulations.

USRP hardware is sold as "test and measurement equipment". Each country has laws and regulations governing the transmission and reception of radio signals. Most if not all countries require a license to transmit certain radio signals and many have laws and regulations governing reception. Each USRP user is solely responsible for insuring their USRP system use is in compliance with all such laws and regulations, including but not limited to obtaining a license and keeping power levels within legal limits for any specific radio frequency.
